PRODUCT DETAILS
After the Sino-French War ended in 1885, China ordered a batch of new cruisers from Europe to strengthen its coastal defense. The "Zhiyuan" was one of the two ships of the same type ordered in Britain. It was built by the company, and is known as "the masterpiece of the British factory" because of its novel design and fast speed. The ship and its sister ships "Jingyuan" were taken over by China's Beiyang Fleet to Europe on their own. After returning home, they joined the Beiyang Fleet and became one of the main ships. The purchase of new warships such as "Zhiyuan" also accelerated the formal formation of the Beiyang Navy.
From the reception of the "Zhiyuan" ship, Deng Shichang, a naval officer, served as the captain of the ship, and was known for his strict management of the army. In 1894, the Sino-Japanese Sino-Japanese War broke out. The "Zhiyuan" ship participated in the naval battle of Dadonggou in the Yellow Sea on September 17. It performed well in the battle and participated in the pursuit of the Japanese ship "Akagi". Xu, "Zhiyuan" to cover the flagship "Dingyuan" suffered heavy losses, and the drums launched a full-force charge against the Japanese warships, intending to perish together. On the way, they sank due to serious injuries and fell short. Most of the more than 200 officers and soldiers of the entire ship were martyred on the ship. Captain Deng Shichang refused to rescue after falling into the water and sank together with the ship. People at the time wrote a joint mourning "This day, the world's tears were shed, and the public was strong and the navy was powerful."
The heroic actions in the Dadonggou naval battle made the "Zhiyuan" a famous hero ship in the history of the Chinese navy, and it has the important symbolic meaning of the Chinese sea soul
